Traveler’s Log: Phoenix/Scottsdale

Hey everyone! My wife and I are currently on a tour of the American Southwest. The last two nights we have been in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. Today we are heading out to Amarillo, Texas.

On our way to Phoenix, we stopped to see the Grand Canyon. This turned out to be a weirdly cold and soggy event. Here are some pics before the rain came down.

Pictures do not do the scene justice. It was spectacular. We were not able to stay long but we have already decided to go back.

We arrived in Phoenix late and pulled into an In-N-Out Burger. We were both excited as we have never been close enough to California to go to one. I have to say, it lived up to the hype.

The next day we met up with some of Candice’s relatives to tour the Scottsdale area. We were able to see desert, an old-style town called Carefree w/ a large sundial in the middle, and some other sites.

We finished the day with a manhunt in our neighborhood complete with a chopper, a visit to several used bookstores, and dinner at the Phoenix City Grille.

Phoenix is a big place and its road system is a bit wonky but we enjoyed our time here and are likely to come back. The biggest takeaway is that the desert is not as brown as if often assumed. There is a lot of green and other colors mixed in.

Next Stop: Amarillo, Texas
